This double sided screen printed shirt was commissioned from the legendary Branca Studio, who have worked with Black Sabbath, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats and many other legendary bands.
The front design features a Persian gryphon, called a Shirdal. The Shirdal is an ancient heraldic symbol that was used to denote guardianship of the divine and the protection of kings, much like the Lamassu who adorn the gateways the cities and palaces of antiquity.
Folklorist Adrienne Mayor speculated that the legend of the gryphon was born out of the discovery of fossilised Protoceratops remains in the Scythian gold-mines of the Altai Mountains.
Modern Persians have adopted the Shirdal as a symbol of freedom and the struggle of resistance.
There are also prints of Shirdal on both sleeves and a large back-print featuring ancient ram stonework and the Lowen logo (designed by Alan Forbes).
